Two years later, Bennett helped push that progress even further with The Holiday Sitter.
The 2022 film became Hallmark’s first Christmas romantic comedy centered on two gay leads meeting, falling in love, and getting their own happily ever after.
Speaking with Today before the film premiered, Bennett explained why the project meant so much to him.
“Growing up, I never saw a love that looked like my love in Christmas movies. So to be able to create that and bring the story to the screen… there are no words for it, of how excited I am.”
For many LGBTQ fans, it was the kind of Christmas movie they had waited decades to watch.

Love Is For Everyone
Bennett continued making Hallmark history through The Groomsmen trilogy across 2024 and 2025. The interconnected films featured the network’s first on-screen gay wedding event, giving viewers another milestone moment wrapped in romance, friendship, and gorgeous scenery.
Reflecting on the experience in a recent interview with People during Hallmark’s 25th Birthday Celebration, Bennett shared how meaningful it was to help redefine what a Hallmark leading man can be.
“It’s such a huge deal because it shows that you can have straight men be leading men and you can have gay men be leading men, and they can play straight and they can play gay,” he said. “There’s so many different ways that you can be a leading man and I think that’s so beautiful about Hallmark Channel.”
Looking back at filming The Groomsmen: Second Chances in Greece alongside close friends and co-stars, Bennett described the experience as “so much fun.” He also emphasized how special it was to be part of Hallmark’s first same-sex wedding storyline, knowing audiences would finally see love stories that reflected their own. His message was wonderfully simple:
“Love is for everyone.”

These days, Bennett is bringing his charisma to daytime television as Detective Joseph “Joe” Fitzpatrick on General Hospital.
According to Entertainment Now, Hallmark Executives also announced during the Hallmark Channel celebration that Bennett will be starring in a new holiday movie called Single at the Wedding, which sees Bennett and an unnamed co-star, “portraying two perennially single friends who do their best to avoid their well-meaning families’ matchmaking efforts.”
While fans can catch him solving mysteries instead of planning Christmas weddings, his Hallmark legacy remains something worth celebrating. He didn’t just star in romantic movies. He helped expand who gets to be the hero, who gets the kiss, and who gets the happily ever after. That is a plot twist we will happily watch every holiday season.
