Roseanne Thinks She Would Be a Better President Than Oprah

After the powerful acceptance speech from Oprah Winfrey as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 75th Annual Golden Globes, the big “O” has been getting a lot of hype—especially from folks who are urging her to run for president in 2020.

Oprah’s speech, including an incredible ending that sounded so much like she is ready for the campaign trail:

In my career what I've always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave, to say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere, and how we overcome. I've interviewed and portrayed people who have withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning, even during our darkest nights. So I want all the girls watching here now to know that a new day is on the horizon.

Even Seth Meyers, who hosted the award show hinted that Oprah running for president would be an incredible thing:

Oprah, while I have you, in 2011 I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — jokes about how he was unqualified to be president — and some have said that night convinced him to run. So if that’s true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president!

Not to mention the that the Twitterverse exploded with “Oprah for President 2020” and #Oprah2020 tweets.

Even Donald Trump had a few choice words on the subject:

Seems like everyone seems to be on board. Well—except for Roseanne Barr. The comedian, who presented at the Golden Globes, has voiced her big opinion once again on political matters. Roseanne, who has been open about her support for Donald Trump, shared her thoughts about the topic during a panel discussion about the return of Roseanne to ABC.

According to The Daily Wire, Roseanne commented:

I do love Oprah. Of course, I love Oprah like everybody else. But you know what? I think it was time for us as a country to shake things up and, you know, try something different.

She was obviously referring to Trump.

Then she was asked about Susan Sarandon and what she thought about the idea of the actress running.

Actually, I think I’d be a better president than Oprah and Susan Sarandon, probably even President Trump. And I did run in 2012.

Yeah—and she came in 6th place.

So it seems that she’s still got the fire under her to possibly get her horse in the race yet again.

I’ve always attempted to portray a realistic portrait of the American people and working-class people. And in fact, it was working-class people who elected Trump, so I felt that yeah, that was very real, and something that needed to be discussed, and especially about polarization in the family and people actually hating other people for the way they voted, which I feel is not American.

Roseanne shared some more of her thoughts about Trump:

Well, he says a lot of crazy shit. I'm not a Trump apologist. There are a lot of things he's said and done that I don't agree with, just like there are a lot of things Hillary Clinton has said and done that you don't agree with. Nobody is brainwashed into agreeing with 100 percent of what anybody says.

First Openly Gay State Supreme Court Justice Nominated for Chief Justice

Dannel Malloy, Democratic Governor of Connecticut, has nominated state Supreme Court Justice Andrew McDonald for chief justice. This would make McDonald the first openly gay state chief justice in the United States. McDonald became part of the Supreme Court five years ago.

Malloy and McDonald have worked closely together since Malloy was mayor of the city of Stamford, but has selected McDonald because of “his intellect, temperament and respect for the rule of law,” according to the CT Mirror. Malloy also mentioned in regard to the historic moment “It also can’t go without noting the national significance of this nomination.”

As chief justice, McDonald would be the first member of the LGBT community to have the highest court in any state. Nationally, there are only a handful of LGBT justices in state supreme courts.

McDonald, who is 51, married his long-time partner, Charles Gray, in 2009 and has shared how important his decision to be open about his sexuality has been to his personal and professional career regardless of what those close to him advised:

When I was born here in Connecticut a little more than 50 years ago, loving relationships like the one Charles and I cherish were criminal in 49 states, including Connecticut. And when I came out in the early 1990s, I had family members who loved me deeply but so counseled me against pursuing either a career in law or in public service because of the deeply ingrained prejudices held by some people at that time.

Doug Jones Gets Sworn in by Mike Pence & Gay Son Carson Gives Side-Eye

Newly elected Democrat Doug Jones was sworn in this week to his U.S. Senate seat in Alabama. There has been much controversy and buzz around Doug Jones and his election over the overtly homophobic and sexually inappropriate Roy Moore.

But you might have also seen the stories related to his openly gay son Carson. We’ve written about him a couple of times and he has been increasing in popularity on social media networks. Just take his Instagram page, for example, where he posts adorable selfies, social gatherings and his father’s campaign win.

If you follow the cutie on social, you may have seen that his most recent photo depicts his father Doug Jones being sworn into office by none other than Vice President, and homophobic, Mike Pence.

Carson’s hashtag #nocaptionneeded is definitely appropriate here. You can just see the angst on Pence’s face as Doug Jones smiles from ear to ear awaiting his new position, proudly standing next to his son. A penny for Pence’s thoughts!

Pence has opposed all major LGBT rights initiative and pushed for banning of gay marriage as governor of Indiana. And now as Veep he has the honor of swearing in Doug Jones and his side-eye baby faced son. Congratulations again, Doug! And way to be present, Carson!

Rising Gay Politician Pete Buttigieg Announced His Engagement

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced his engagement on social media.

On Thursday, Buttigieg announced through Facebook that he’s gotten engaged to his partner Chasten Glezman.

Buttigieg and Glezmen, who’s a school teacher, announced their excitement for their future together.

On top of that, Buttgieg is an openly gay politician who’s on the rise. He came out in an essay in 2015 where he confessed its been hard for him to accept his sexuality.

“Like most people, I would like to get married one day and eventually raise a family,” he wrote. “I hope that when my children are old enough to understand politics, they will be puzzled that someone like me revealing he is gay was ever considered to be newsworthy. By then, all the relevant laws and court decisions will be seen as steps along the path to equality.”

With his personal life stabilizing, Buttigieg is focusing on his political career. While most everyday citizens probably don’t know his name yet, Buttigieg is making the rounds within the political world.

Members of the Democratic party are whispering about Buttigieg and saying he’ll be the future of the party. They say this not only because of his ambition and drive, but because of his connections with Republicans.

Because of Buttigieg’s status as the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg has connections within a red state and is more prepared to sell Democratic policy in a Bi-partisan manner.

On top of that, he ran for chairman of the Democratic National Committee earlier this year and was considered a strong contender until he pulled out from the race the day of the vote.

Due to these qualities and more, sites like CNN are keeping watch of Pete Buttigieg as we all get closer to the 2020 presidential race.

Pro-Trump Group to Run 'Thank You for Letting Us Say Merry Christmas Again" Ads

On Christmas morning you may find that while opening those gifts under the tree you may be interrupted by special Christmas day ads that celebrate the current president's successes over the last year. America First Policies, a pro-Trump group, has announced that they will run the ads in gratitude for Donald Trump who has made Christmas Great Again!

The videos show Trump supporters thanking him for various actions he's taken over the last year--none related to LGBTQ people, for obvious reasons.

The happy participants smile and thank Trump with the tune of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and at the end a little girl appears on screen thanking him for "letting us say Merry Christmas again". Okay.

Donald Trump has insisted on multiple occasions that the phrase Merry Christmas has been removed from American vernacular because we are all too PC to say something that may offend others. He has also gone on record (via Twitter) that previous president Barack Obama was responsible for removing the 'Christmas' from our lives.

Depending on your opinion about Trump, you may just want to keep Yule Log on this year.

Get to Know Senator Doug Jones' Hottie Gay Son Carson

The more we learn about newly elected Doug Jones’ gay son, Carson, the more we like! Just last week, when Jones was elected to Senate representing the state of Alabama. It was a close race between Jones and homophobic and alleged sexual predator Roy Moore. But with Jones’ victory came an flood of celebration—especially from the queer community which seems may finally have an ally in their corner. Jones’ son Carson Jones, who is openly gay, has since become a topic of conversation—getting possibly more press than his dad.

Carson’s Instagram seems to be on fire lately, with comments deeming him a ZADDY and countless marriage proposals for the hopeful zoo keeper. He’s a bearded cutie who loves the outdoors who is SINGLE and has gained over 15,000 followers on Instagram in the last week alone.

Hornet talked with Carson about his father’s win, the gay dating scene, and gave us a little bit of perspective of the guy who’s making us even giddier that Doug Jones took the Senate seat.

With regard to his new following, Carson shared with Hornet:

It was honestly kind of overwhelming as the followers started to climb really quickly. But I have had so many really nice people reach out with words of encouragement and support. So many people have just simply said “Thank you” and all of that really means a lot. Moving forward, I probably will get a bit more vocal about issues. But honestly who knows what the future holds at this point.

And again, boys—I’ll mention that Carson is SINGLE and apparently ready to mingle. But he’s looking for someone who is authentic, well-rounded but who still likes to hang out and just be low key.

I’m very much single.

Just getting started dipping my toe in the dating pool which has been exciting but also terrifying. I mean, I’m looking for what I think most people are: someone handsome and charming but also someone genuine and real. Someone that is engaged with the world around them and supportive when I binge eat Chinese food at 3:00 a.m. after a night out on the town.

In 2018, Carson will be finishing graduate school in hopes of nabbing a job at a zoo. Yes—he LOVES animals and is devoting his life to them. But seems like Carson loves napping just as much—could he be looking for a napping buddy?

Finishing grad school is the top priority. I’ll be done in May and then I’ll see where that takes me. Hopefully a really amazing zoo wants to hire me on full-time and I can really get going with my career. But I also just want to take some time and travel and relax. It has been a crazy year to say the least, so if more naps could be in my future in 2018 … that would be perfect.

So by now you may be wondering where to submit your boyfriend applications. You’ll have to follow him and see, but don’t be thirsty.

Palm Springs Swears In Newly Elected All LGBT Council

At Wednesday night’s council meeting, the City of Palm Springs swore in the two most recent elected council members, Lisa Middleton and Christy Holstege. Middleton and Holstege are the two local politicians that had a record-breaking win last month and made Palm Springs, the gay Mecca, the first California city with an all LGBTQ council.

Holstege is the youngest councilmember who identifies as bisexual.

Middleton is, remarkably, the first transgender person to be elected to a non-judicial office in the entire state of California.

After her win, Middleton shared with the Desert Sun:

We’re very proud of being an inclusive community. And I’m absolutely convinced that commitment to inclusivity is one of the factors in the growth and the Renaissance of Palm Springs.

Middleton and Holstege join Mayor Robert Moon & Councilmembers J.R. Roberts and Geoff Kors.

Here’s a video posted by a council meeting attendee that welcomes the two councilmembers to the city.

Founder of 'Twinks for Trump' Arrested During Speech

Lucian Wintrich, a gay conservative and the founder of 'Twinks for Trump', appeared to give a speech at the University of Connecticut when chaos ensued during his "It's OK to be White" speech. The speaking engagement was sponsored by the UConn College Republicans.

Twinks for Trump was a parody account that pretended to appeal to gay demographic and campaign for Donald Trump during the 2016 election, but Wintrich is, in fact, a White House Correspondent who works for a right-wing site Gateway Pundit. He's even highlighted his affinity for Trump with a perplexing art exhibit that obviously displays both his political views and his taste in men.

Seen enough?

Moving on.

Over 300 people attended the speech where Wintrich was faced with shouts of "Go Home Nazi" "Fuck You" and "Black Lives Matter" according to The Daily Campus. Wintrich apparently took breaks during his speech to take sips from a glass of milk and insulted audience members by commenting on their appearance. The audience grew angry and the crowd rushed the lectern. Wintrich was removed from the room and arrested for breach of peace on the university campus after he attacked a woman in the crowd when she took his speech from the podium. He was later released on $1,000 bail.

Wintrich then took to social media to further taunt the masses.

Los Angeles LGBT Center Issues Statement On President's Anti-Muslim Tweets

LOS ANGELES - In response to President Trump's tweeted endorsement of the far-right, anti-Muslim group Britain First, the Los Angeles LGBT Center issued the following statement:

"The Los Angeles LGBT Center joins with the international human rights community to condemn President Trump’s endorsement this morning of far-right propaganda against Muslims.

"Tweeting videos spread by British extremists that further demonize Muslims opens the door for Trump’s supporters to target Muslims for acts of hatred and violence. This action is indefensible on many counts, but, put most simply, it is dangerous and obscene.

"The obsessive targeting of vulnerable populations by the president and his Administration has very real and violent consequences. Right now, one in five people who commit hate crimes in the United States reference President Trump by name.

"We must all stand against these vile acts of hatred directed against LGBT people, immigrants, people of color, women, Muslims, Jews, and many other vulnerable communities, and stand against the constant tide of normalization and encouragement that the president’s behavior grants to those who commit them.

"This is the time for all people of good conscience to say, ‘Enough!’"

The Second Highest Ranked Senator Endorsed A Candidate Who Wants To Make Being Gay Illegal

It seems that a bunch of anti-gay Republicans are getting political positions of power in the country’s capital.

First, our president jokes that the vice president wants to hang all gay people, and now our Majority Whip is openly endorsing a man who wants to make being gay illegal.

John Cornyn from Texas is essentially the second highest ranked Republican in the Senate with the position of Majority Whip. And now, Cornyn has endorsed Alabam’s Roy Moore.

Roy Moore is one of the candidates running in a special election to fill a Senate seat that was left by now Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“Alabamians will soon elect a new U.S. Senator and I hope they will vote for the candidate who will follow in former Senator Sessions’ footsteps as a tireless advocate led by principle rather than politics,” Cornyn said according to the Daily Caller, “That is why I am proud to offer my support to Judge Roy Moore for U.S. Senate. I look forward to working with him to pass legislation that will effect meaningful change for all Americans.”

The problem is that Moore is known for being highly controversial.

Moore is so controversial that he was kicked out of his role of chief justice in the Alabama’s state Supreme Court because he refused to honor federal laws.

In addition, Moore has very hostile thoughts on LGBTQ and Muslim people. In 2015, he said that homosexuality should be illegal and considered equal to bestiality.

He’s called homosexuality “an inherent evil” and says gay people, “practice an immoral act that less than 40 years ago was not to be mentioned in polite public circles.”

When asked about Moore’s beliefs on homosexuality, Senate Majority Whip Cornyn said, “I don’t have to agree with somebody to support them over the Democratic nominee. I support the nominee of my party.”

Then when asked about Moore’s sentiment that people like Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison shouldn’t be in Congress because he’s Muslim, Cornyn responded, “I have disagreement within my own family, doesn’t mean I care for them any less, so I support the nominee of my party.”

It seems that if Cornyn might want to consider that party loyalty isn't always the answer.
